Love is ….

Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast,
it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil
but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts,
always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.

(1 Corinthians 13:4)

If you’ve ever got married or been to a wedding these words from the Bible may be familiar to you – they are words that are used to describe what love is (very appropriate I thought for St Valentines day). Love is one of those words that we use so much nowadays, that if we’re not careful we can forget it’s true value. We “love” eating our favourite pizza, or listening to our favourite song, we “love” going on holidays to our favourite place – and today of all days we’re encouraged (for who this is big business) to buy chocolates, flowers, cards etc. Now I’m not being a killjoy and of course it’s nice to exchange gifts and good wishes with those we care about but amongst it lets hope true love does no get lost.

Which brings me back to that passage from 1 Corinthians again – you see it also says in the Bible (1 John 4.8) that “God is love”. So with that in mind lets look at that passage again:

God is patient,God is kind.
God does not envy, God does not boast,
God is not proud.
God is not rude, and is not self-seeking,
God is not easily angered,
God keeps no record of wrongs.
God does not delight in evil
but rejoices with the truth.
God always protects, always trusts,
always hopes, always perseveres.
God never fails.

Happy Valentines Day ……
