This November I’ll be growing something different – a moustache!
Why I hear some of you say, well it’s all part of a mens health awareness campaign called Movember. Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in the UK and around the world. The aim of which is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and testicular cancer. The funds raised in the UK are directed to programmes run directly by Movember and their men’s health partners, Prostate Cancer UK and the Institute of Cancer Research. Movember works with these partners to ensure that Movember funds are supporting a broad range of innovative, world-class programmes in line with our strategic goals in the areas of awareness and education, survivorship and research.
Testicular and Prostate cancer is still something that many of us don’t like to think about – let alone talk about – and it’s certainly not the kind of issue you’d usually bring up over a pint or a coffee….. but for mens health its a really important issue. In my twenties I had to have a testicle removed – thankfully it was not cancerous – recently a friend of mine also had to have treatment for testicular cancer – sadly these things are far more common than we might at first realise.
